Lip flip or lip filler? An honest comparison
A lip flip does not add anything to your lip. It relaxes the muscle at the upper lip edge so the lip you already have turns slightly outward and more of it shows. Lip filler adds volume and shape with a gel placed inside the lip. Different tools, different results.
Here is how we would put it to you at the consultation. If you want a subtle change, or your top lip disappears when you smile, the flip is the answer. If you want a visibly bigger lip, a flip will disappoint you and you should read the lip filler page instead.
Our opinion: the lip flip is a low-commitment way to find out whether you actually want more lip. It wears off in a few months. We would rather you start there than commit to filler you were not sure about. Plenty of clients try the flip first, and some never move on to filler because it turned out to be enough.

Consultation
Your provider looks at your lip at rest and when you smile, and confirms whether a flip will give you what you want or whether filler is the better fit.
Numbing
A topical numbing agent goes on the upper lip first.
Injections
A few small injections along the upper lip border. The whole thing takes minutes.
Aftercare
Stay upright for a few hours, skip strenuous exercise for the rest of the day, and do not rub or press on the lip. Minor swelling or a small bruise is normal and short lived.
Results
The flip shows within a few days and settles fully in about two weeks. Any adjustment is decided after that. Results last three to six months.
Candidacy
Is a lip flip right for you?
A lip flip is likely a good fit if you:
- are at least 18
- want more of your upper lip to show without adding volume
- want to try a lip change before committing to filler
- are in good physical and mental health, with no medical contraindications
- have realistic expectations about a subtle result
It is not right for you if the change you want is size. A flip cannot make a thin lip full. That is filler's job, and your provider will say so rather than book you in for a result you will not be happy with.
Cost
What affects the cost
A lip flip treats one small area, the upper lip border, with a small amount of product. What changes the cost is pairing it with something else in the same visit, such as lip filler. Your provider confirms your plan and its cost at your consultation, before any treatment is booked.
Lip filler, the treatment people most often weigh it against, adds volume inside the lip and typically lasts 6 to 12 months against the flip's three to six. Both can be paid through Cherry financing after a soft credit check. Members get Botox at the member rate of $12 per unit, plus banked monthly credit that can go toward either treatment.

Will my lip look fake?
