Port Wine Stain Laser Treatment in Walnut Creek
Port wine stain laser treatment targets the vessels inside a congenital vascular birthmark with a calibrated wavelength of light, and leaves the surrounding skin alone. At Aesthetx Haus in Walnut Creek, our team assesses every birthmark in person before any treatment is booked.

A birthmark treated as what it is, a vascular concern
A port wine stain is a birthmark made of vessels, present from birth, which is why it never faded the way a bruise or a rash would. Creams cannot reach it. A laser tuned to the vessel can.
The treatment is the same family as the rosacea and spider vein lasers on this site. The light is absorbed by the vessels in the stain and not by the skin around them, so the mark lightens while the surrounding skin is untouched.
Our position on this treatment is more cautious than on most. Port wine stains vary a great deal in size, depth and location, and we assess each one in person before quoting a plan. If a stain is beyond what our laser can do well, we will say so at the consultation rather than sell you a series.
The appointment
What to expect
Consultation
Your provider examines the birthmark, asks about any previous treatment, and confirms whether a laser is the right approach for it.
Preparation
Avoid sun, tanning and retinoids in the weeks before. Arrive with clean, product-free skin.
Treatment
Protective eyewear on, then the laser is targeted to the stain. Most sessions take 15 to 30 minutes depending on size. Cooling keeps it comfortable, and topical numbing is available.
Aftercare
Mild redness or slight swelling for 24 to 48 hours is normal. Stay out of the sun and wear SPF every day while the skin heals.
Sessions
Laser skin concerns generally take 2 to 4 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart, with gradual improvement within 2 to 4 weeks of each.
Candidacy
Is port wine stain treatment right for you?
Port wine stain treatment is likely a good fit if you have:
- a port wine stain you have covered for years
- another congenital vascular birthmark
- a mark that has not responded to topical treatment
- realistic expectations that it lightens over a series rather than vanishes in one visit
It is not right for you this month if you are tanned or have had recent sun exposure, since that raises the risk of pigmentation changes. Your provider will ask you to wait.
Cost
What affects the cost
The cost of port wine stain treatment depends on the number of sessions, which depends on the size and depth of the stain. Your provider gives you an estimate and confirms your plan and its cost at your consultation.
Because the total depends on the series, Cherry financing is worth knowing about. It splits the plan into payments after a soft credit check that does not affect your score.

Still unsure? Book a consultation, and our team will answer anything this page does not.
How much does port wine stain laser treatment cost in Walnut Creek?
Port wine stain treatment cost depends on the size, depth and location of the birthmark, because those set how many sessions it needs. Your provider examines the stain and gives you the exact cost at your consultation, before any treatment is booked. Financing through Cherry is available.
How long do port wine stain results last?
Vascular concerns can return over time, so occasional maintenance sessions may be needed after the initial series. Your provider sets a maintenance plan with you based on how the stain responds.
Does port wine stain treatment hurt?
Discomfort is minimal. Most clients describe a warm snap like a rubber band. Cooling runs throughout, and topical numbing can be applied.
How long is recovery after port wine stain treatment?
Downtime is minimal. Expect mild redness or slight swelling for 24 to 48 hours, then normal activity with a strict sunscreen habit.
Is the laser safe for darker skin tones?
Some laser treatments need adjusted settings for darker skin tones to avoid pigmentation changes. Your provider assesses your skin at consultation and confirms the right approach.
Can port wine stain treatment be combined with other treatments?
Yes. Laser skin treatments pair well with microneedling, glow facials and injectables. Your provider builds a combined plan at consultation if it fits your goals.
